[ mood | cranky ]

Chapter seven is up and finished! I'm actually rather proud of this one. I think I caught the essence of Telemain and Morwen's relationship.

Title: In Between Dragons
Disclaimer: Patricia C. Wrede owns it all. A bit that is owned by Lewis Carroll is included here.
Pairing: Telemain/Morwen, Jack/Amory
Rating: PG-13 or T, depending on the system you use.
Chapter Warnings: A bit of arguing, but nothing that you wouldn't normally hear from Telemain and Morwen.
Story Summary: Mendanbar is missing. Cimorene and Daystar are in exile. But time still marches on in the Enchanted Forest. As Telemain sits on edge ready to propose to Morwen, Willin discovers to everyone's horror that the king's sword is missing from where it was hidden. And all evidence begins to lead them to wizards once again. How do Telemain and Morwen put all the pieces together when the most important players in this game can't be reached for another ten years?
Chapter Summary: When Telemain thinks he's found a way to track down their thief, Morwen has her own surprise for Telemain. Only problem is he thinks he's hearing voices...

Curious, Telemain asked, “what is that?”

“You’ll see.” She took a small about of the salve and rubbed it between her forefingers and thumbs. Then she stepped forward and reached out to Telemain, gently rubbing the mixture into his ear lobes.

“What is this?” he protested, trying to shake away like a small child. “I’m going to smell like an herb garden!”

“Stop fussing. I’m almost done. Then I can see if it works, and then you can go to bed. You’re cranky.”

“And you’re not? I’ve never heard you snap at me so much in one night!”

“Will you two keep it down? Some of us are trying to sleep!”

“You’ve seen loss around you recently. Not death, but close. And you worry for those you love around you. You worry that the same could happen to those who are still close to you, both friends and family.” Ivis replaced the second band over his third eye. “And now I’ve added to those worries because you fear you’re the tattle-tail in all of this sword flim flam business.”

Jack leaned forward with a grin on his face. “And what about Telemain?” he asked. “What can you tell us about him?”

Ivis looked up just as Telemain walked back into the room, paging through the registry. “Telemain? He’s simply a maniac, that’s all.”

Amory rolled her eyes. “Excuse my cousin, he has no tact sir. Unlike him, I can tell you for who you really are.”

Ivis turned to Amory and barked a laugh. “Do you now? Enlighten us young lady! I like a bit of intelligent zest!”

Amory smiled warmly. “You’re a soothsayer. Or a cyclopes. I haven’t been able to decide just yet.”

Telemain and Ivis smiled and exchanged a look. “This one is clever, unless you told her ahead of time.” Telemain shook his head and Ivis continued, “well then, let’s not keep her in suspense.”

She looked up at him and said, "you can wipe that smile off your mug."

"Oh, come now Morwen. You make graduating summa cum laude sound like an under achievement."

"It isn't," she stated evenly. "But I still say you bent the rules a bit to make valedictorian."

"Oh really? What's your theory?"

She chuckled to herself and said, "you use too many big words."

“Why is that?”

“They thought it was too below them, which just goes to prove that they have an even bigger ego than he does,” Morwen said, motioning her head in Telemain’s direction.

He ignored her.

The magician took his in one swallow, answering, "yes, but in five minutes, you're not going to care."

"Brandel told me and Jack earlier tonight that he was going to, and I quote, 'declare his intentions to you.'"

Morwen blanched. "He what?"

Telemain nodded and Morwen bowed her head in her hands, closing her eyes in blatant frustration.

"Morwen, it may be the dim light out here, but you're face looks like it's turning a nice shade a puce."

"That's because I can't decide whether I want to be embarrassed or sick," she moaned.

Morwen/Telemain VS Morwen/Brandel [04 May 2010|09:30pm]

ithinkadrianne
I started mapping out an idea for a fic in my head that mainly covers everything that happened to everyone between "Calling on Dragons" and "Talking to Dragons." Mendanbar is indisposed and Cimorene and Daystar are in hiding. But there obviously was a lot going on if at the end of "Talking" we find out Telemain and Morwen are engaged.

So...what happened in between?

I thought about this fic as I reread "Calling" a couple weeks ago, and it was then I noticed...I sensed this spark between Morwen and Brandel that she has sometimes with Telemain. Thus, I'm wondering if there were implied feelings between them.

For me, I'm making this part of my fic. But I'm just wondering if anybody else sensed the M/B attraction? Anyone?

Anyways, I'm slowly writing out the first chapter. Basically, a number of the minor characters come back and I give them all a duty through the break between the two stories. My character list? Telemain gets the point of view in this one since all of the other main human characters get to more or less narrate in the actual novels (ya know, "Dealing" follows Cimorene, "Searching" with Mendanbar, "Calling" for Morwen, and "Talking" for Daystar). Then there's Morwen, Kazul, Brandel, Amory, Gypsy Jack, and Willin.

Do I have any takers? :)

Hello [26 Dec 2009|10:52am]

loracarol
Erm... Hello, I'm new here. I don't know when I started reading the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, but I did, and I have been addicted ever since. I've read them over and over, but I can't find the 'illustrated version' that people have been talking about. I have listened to the book-on-tapes several times as well, and I love (most of) the voices- though, not Morwen's voice for the first book. It's nice to know that there actually is a place here for the EFC, and I no longer have only my brohters to talk to about it.

P.S. There is a website called "Imagine Casting" where people can flesh out their ideal cast for whatever they want, and all four books in the EFC have been uploaded. If anyone's interested they're here: http://imaginecasting.com/titles/search/?kw=wrede. It is lovely to meet you all!

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself.. Im Britt.  *insert wave here*

My friend got me turned onto the EFC when I was eleven, and now I'm twenty four and reading them to my own daughter!  And she loves them just as much as I do!  A lot of people are far too concerned with the 'reccomended age' for these books- great reading isn't dependent on needing a dictionary (Latin-English or otherwise!) to make sense of it.

**spoiler**  (probably not needed, but just in case!)

It's more then worth it to watch her light up with this hilariously shocked expression when Mendanbar asks Cimorene to marry him.  Or, what's becoming her favorite expression... "Aww Mom, you're acting like a wizard!"

So Daystar's not Edward Cullen, so what, he's still awesome. [22 Apr 2009|08:27pm]

I just finished reading Talking to Dragons to my daughter and it was actually a little ho hum, which made me sad considering it used to be my favorite one.

However, the ending was still fantastic and, once again, made me cry when Daystar hands the sword over to his father. So touching, that.

And, most importantly, Daystar was still really hot once he came into his own at the end there. I was thinking, "Why why WHY has Wrede not written more about Daystar?" Here she has a perfectly marvelous male character with all kinds of potential and she's just ignoring him and writing installment after installment (it seems) of her Sorcy and Cecy series. Sorcy and Cecy is fine, but I couldn't really get into the following two.

I would read anything about Daystar.

FYI, from this year's Yuletide challenge:

Several Competent Wizards - a delightful crossover between three different Wrede universes. A fun adventure with lots of atmosphere and hysterical combinations of characters.

Realizations - Mairelon realizes something about his relationship with Kim. This is bittersweet and really well done.

Just FYI, the Harry Potter community omniocular is doing crossovers this month, and there's an EFC prompt listed:

73. After he is turned into a 6-foot (7-foot, 11-inch, counting the ears) floating blue donkey with oversized wings, Arona Michaelear Grinogion Vamist is found hiding in the Forbidden Forest by Hagrid.

I'm sure there's a crossover fan out there who I could tempt with this, no? One restriction - it has to be gen (no romance). The challenge is open to both members and non-members of the community.

You can sign up here.

The 8 Rings of Telemain [26 Sep 2006|08:55pm]

I only have a minute to post, but I wanted to give you the first chapter of my fic...

Title: The 8 Rings of Telemain
Rating: PG-13ish...there'll be some hectic magical incidents to come
Pairings: Definitely Telemain/Morwen through the story
Summary: Upon recieving a threat from a wizard called Yappo, Mendanbar calls on Telemain to find the connection between the wizard to the magician and his new wife, Morwen. Like all of Telemain's explanations, however, it is not that simple. Telemain has to dive back to when he was 9 years old and growing up with Morwen to explain everything.

Telemain [18 Sep 2006|04:17pm]

verselus
I started a fanfiction about Telemain's past yesterday. It'll probably end up being about fifteen chapters long, and it features quite a bit about Telemain and Morwen's history together, as well as how he got those 7 rings on his fingers (and did anybody else notice that it went down to 6 in Talking to Dragons and suddenly at the end of the book him and Morwen are getting married? Coinsidence? I think not!)

Anyways, just wondering if anybody's interested in reading my fic. I would love to draw pictures for it, but I suck at drawing. :P

Question about Wrede's Work [15 Jun 2006|11:47pm]

verselus
[ mood | creative ]

I'm just posing a question in the line of Wrede's work. In my mind, I think that the Sorcery and Cecelia series (which I believe just came out with it's third book) is a bit subpar compared to Wrede's other work. The two series I have ENJOYED EMENSELY are the Magic and Malice books (or the books featuring Richard "Mairelon" Merrill) and of course the Enchanted Forest Chronicles. Fans are waiting BIG TIME for sequels to these books, but yet Wrede continues with the other series.

Is it just me, or should she sit down to write about Mairelon or Cimorene again? Or am I over reacting and should give the Sorcery and Cecelia series a try again?

In case anyone is interested, I am now at liberty to reveal that the fic I needed a beta reader for is the following that I wrote for Yuletide!

Title: Magicians Married

Rating: PG-13 for violence

[ mood | cheerful ]

Greetings! I have been a huge fan since I picked up Calling on Dragons in high school. Yep, I started with the third book instead of the first one.

I was a huge Morwen and Telemain shipper even before I got to the end of the fourth book. So imagine how delighted I was when I finished Talking to Dragons, and imagine how bummed I was when I realized that was the last book of the series and then threw it against the wall. LOL Yeah, I get like that about my stories.

But Wrede did the exact same thing with Mairelon the Magician books didn't she? I won't say what happened incase someone is reading them. But the point is, Pat Wrede needs to write more of the Enchanted Forest Chronicles and of Mairelon the Magician because she's got a pretty darn good following. :D
